Emerald City Comic-Con

I cannot tell you how excited I was to be able to go to Emerald City Comic-Con (henceforth referred to as ECCC)  this year! It's been something I very much wanted to do for the past few years but I hadn't had the time, money, transportation, &tc...

This year, however, things changed!

Late last year, how I cannot recall, ECCC was brought to my attention. Having a new job and very few monetary responsibilities I knew I could afford going. But the struggle to find a character to co-splay soon drove the idea from my mind. Then, about a month and a half ago, looking through the "Geek" section of Pinterest* I remember my plans. I was soon foiled again! It seemed our churches women's retreat was scheduled for the Saturday that I had planned to go!! Tragedy had struck, for I would not skip either work or church to go on Friday or Sunday. It was never something I considered as an option. (Thank you, Dad & Mom for instilling love for the Lord and respect for those I work for/with into my thick skull)
By the time I looked at the church calendar and realized my mistake, for you see the retreat is next Saturday, it was too late!! Tickets for ECCC were sold out!
As the week wore on I struggled to contain my frustration and disappointment. How could I have not thought to check the schedule sooner?? Why do I not carry a pocket calendar in my purse to avoid such misunderstandings, as my mother so sweetly suggests??
I trudged to work every day, knowing that I had missed my chance this year, and that I had no one to blame but myself. I am ashamed to admit I did my fair amount of complaining. (I don't like that expression, is any amount of complaining fair? First world problems! anyway...) Mostly to my fellow infant room worker. But also to my boss. As it turns out, she wasn't able to go to ECCC as planned (But she was planning on it! How cool is that? I work with pretty cool people, let me just tell you that right now) Well, she had given her ticket to a family member, but her daughter and son-in-law were debating going because their little one wasn't feeling well. My boss told her daughter of my disappointment and the next thing I knew, I had two tickets to comic-con in my hands.
Well, not literally, because she had to go home and print the tickets off, but you know what I mean.

So that is how I ended up with Saturday tickets for ECCC on Friday!!

So, here is the conglomeration of photographs from the event.

Outfit Post

I apologize for the blurry photo, but it is the best I could do this morning. I also apologize for the
''instagram-esque'' filters.  I'll find something better very soon!

sweater ~ thrift store
shirt ~ thrift store
lace tank ~ Romy's
leggings (the red velvet ones!!) ~ from my mom
flats ~ thrift store
bag ~ thrift store

I was going for a 1940's/sailor vibe, but the victory roll wouldn't roll, and my red lipstick went missing.
Working at a daycare I have to find clothes that are comfortable and function-able. By the end of the day I felt like I had found one of my new favorite ensembles. This outfit felt as comfortable as pajamas without feeling as lazy as pajamas.

Sunday Afternoon

Hello all!! I'm sorry for my lack of posts the past two weeks, but I've been sick. Nothing major, just the little annoyance and inconvenience of several colds. They left me so tired by the end of the day that I just couldn't think. I knew that any post I wrote would be nonsensical and absolutely ridiculous. So, Lord willing, I'll be back this week with a review or two, and other random posts.
Now, onto something that has been on my mind for awhile. While I don't want to give this blog up yet, I know that since I began, I've changed quite a bit. I feel like this blog only covers a very little part of who I am. You see, when I started, I was a bit of a period film snob. Over the years I hope that has changed some. But it does mean that I will probably start including (short, less detailed) movie reviews for other films like 'Star Trek: Into Darkness', which I'm excited to go see for my birthday this year. Because I am a Trekkie. And a big Sci-Fi nerd. I may once a week do an outfit post (hence the picture I've included with just hints of clothes I found today! Including maroon velvet leggings. Odd, I know but I'm so excited to find a pretty way to wear them) If I had to describe my style it would be Tim Burton's Victorian England meets Zooey Deschanel's Modern/Vintage glam. An interesting combo, I know. I hope you'll bear with me and stick around for these changes. It seems sort of sudden, but I feel it's a change that needs to be had for my sake, as a writer. If you know someone who would be interested in my blog after these changes, please, spread the word!! And tell me if you have any suggestions! A time of change is a good time to hear constructive criticism!

Oh, and the pictures are just snippets of my Sunday afternoon with my mom and sister. We went to a local Chinese place for lunch and then went thrift shopping. I found four books for my collection (three pictured) and lovely new sweaters, belts, and a shirt. Hopefully you'll see outfit posts soon!!

A Film Review: Mansfield Park (1983)

You know that feeling you get when you invest hours of your life to a miniseries based on one of your favorite works of fiction, only to come out of your room when its over, blinking your tear filled eyes at the light, wondering what on earth you just wasted so much of you life watching because it certainly wasn't what it claimed to be?

Well that is what I expected to feel when I started watching this, but as it turns out, this film exceeded my expectations.

After watching the two more modern adaptations of Mansfield Park I was about ready to give up on there ever being a truly good one. This became available on Netflix instant play recently and I decided to give it a shot, after all, it could be no worse then the other two right?

Aside from the acting, which really was horrible at times, I did enjoy this film. It was by far the most accurate of the three Mansfield Parks. Especially the portrayal of Fanny Price. At first I thought she didn't have enough spirit, (and face it, most people want to give her too much credit, but sometimes we go to the opposite end and don't think about how much spirit she would have to have to stick to her morals so well), but as the movie progressed, her character grew, while still being the meek, quiet, and sometimes fragile Fanny that Jane Austen wrote into existence.
However!! I couldn't stand Edmund. I'll expand more on what I though of each character's portrayal in another post. I plan to watch and review the other two and then do a comparison of all three sometime in the future.

So, until then, I do recommend Mansfield Park. I'll give it a three and a half out of five stars. Which means I liked it, I'd watch it again, and someday I would like to have it in my DVD collection. It just didn't quite make it to my favorites list.

Things...

I apologize for my silence! I've had the ''ickies''.

So, normally, today I would be writing "A Little Scribble", but I kind of ran out of ideas. Comment with lots of names, scenarios, era's in history, places, and even lines that I should use in my new story. I'll try to make it short enough to finish in two posts so that I stay interested and keep it interesting to you!

Also, tomorrow a movie review. I'll be reviewing one of the Mansfield Parks. After I've re-watched them all I'll do a character comparison. But that may not be for some time yet.

Anyway, I hope you are all in good health!
